About Our Signs

Are your signs completely painted?
Yes, all of our signs listed under the Sign Shoppe are completely painted, this includes our lettering.  We do not use vinyl for any part of our signs.
How long does it take to make my sign?
Once we have received your order, we will begin working on your sign.  If you are ordering a Create-Your-Own or Personalized sign, we will first need to create a digital sample for you to approve before we can proceed with your order.  Typically, all signs take 2-3 weeks (10-15 business days) from start to finish.
What type of wood do you use for your signs?
All of our standard signs are made up of 3/4" thick select pine only and are all hand picked.  You will not find knots in our signs, however we do not avoid wood grain patterns and other wood blemishes that are typical when using wood.  
Tavern Signs, Photo Frames and our larger rectangle signs are made out of MDF.  Please know that when purchasing your sign from us, you can buy with confidence knowing that we only use the very best materials. 
Our signs truly look tastefully old.
Are your signs handcrafted?
Yes.  Our signs are not made in a factory.  Each and every sign is handcrafted by us.  And because of this, no two signs will ever be the same. Best of all, they are made here in the USA!
What types of edging do you offer?
Currently we only offer our rounded edge. The Hand-Chiseled edge has been discontinued.

          What is a rounded edge? 
          Rounded edged signs will have the edges rounded slightly, then hand-painted
          and distressed to give them the aged look. This is our standard edge.
**Please note - If you want the top of your sign to be extreme prim, please let us know that in the notes section when placing your order. If you do not state that you would like more of a worn look, you will not receive it.
Do your signs come in different sizes?
Yes. Most of the signs on our website can be made smaller or larger by request.
What type of colors do you offer?
Click HERE to view our available colors.   We offer colors that match everyone's style of home decor. 

We can combine any of the colors for your sign. As of October 2013, we no longer offer the custom color request feature. If you absolutely need to have us use a custom color, you will need to not only purchase the paint, but also ship it to us to use on your sign. Please call us in advance of purchasing your paint color as we will only accept a certain kind of paint.
Do you do offer custom ordered/personalized signs?
We offer and specialize in custom made/ordered signs and have done so for several years. If there is something you are looking for and can not find it, please let us know. You can also submit a request for quote by clicking HERE and we will forward you a sample layout of what your sign will look like, along with pricing. When submitting your quote, please include as much information as possible. Sign size, font style, colors-both background and lettering and saying. Please make sure all spelling is correct.

Please note, when submitting a quote for a sign, there may be times when we really like the sign and will offer it to other customers.

Please add us to your email's safe list. There are times when submitting a quote, that your email will block our replies. We answer promptly, so should you not receive an email from us within 1-5 business days (we are closed all holidays and weekends), please contact us immediately. Do your signs come ready to hang?
Yes.  Each sign comes ready to hang with at least one sawtooth hanger.  Larger signs, depending on weight, may come with two sawtooth hangers on the back.  Tavern signs, if hanging from a post system or signs that are painted on both sides do not come ready to hang, as these require special hangers.
It is the responsibility of the customer to add more hangers if needed. We are not responsible for any damage or injury for improper use of our signs.  If your sign will be hanging in a high traffic area or above doorways, please take care in that it is hung properly and securely.
Can your signs be hung outdoors?
Each sign is lightly sealed for indoor use to ensure many years of use and to help keep them looking like the day you bought them.  However, if you are planning on hanging your sign outdoors, we suggest that once you receive your sign that you apply an outdoor sealer to it to keep it looking like new. We recommend using Varathane Diamond Spar Urethane (Outdoor) Clear Satin in the spray can. It is available at most home improvement stores. This will add additional protection for your sign from the outdoor elements.
Are all of your signs in stock?
No.  Each sign is made to order. This means once we have received your order and payment, we will begin making your sign. Because we want to offer our Customers the ability to pick the colors that are suitable for their specific home decor, it is impossible for us to carry every sign with every color option we offer. However, there are times when we will create extras of our most popular signs and list them in the In Stock section.
How long have you been in business?
We have been in business since 2006.
Can you duplicate a sign I saw in a magazine?
No.  We will not duplicate another artists work. When offering custom made signs, it is impossible for us to know if a customer is requesting a sign that has been previously made by another artist, so we ask that you do not ask us to do so. If you see that we have a design that you believe was made by another artist, please let us know. We will research it and if need be, remove it immediately. We respect our fellow artists and will never purposely duplicate another artists hard work. When it comes to custom made signs, we can reuse sayings that you have seen and add our own touch, but we can not and will not use the same graphics or font selections that another artist has used.
Can I use one of your designs and make it myself?
No.  All of our designs are copyright protected. By not allowing others to duplicate our work, it enables us to offer unique designs on our website only. We ask that you do not ask another artist or sign company to duplicate one of our signs. If you are working with another artist/sign company and you see that they are duplicating work that is ours, please let us know immediately.
How long does it take to receive an order?
Because our signs are made to order, please allow anywhere from 10-15 business days for us to create your sign(s) and prepare your order for shipping. During the holiday season (October - January), it can take a little bit longer to receive an order so it is always best to order early. It is our goal here at Rusty Star Sign Company to provide you with excellent service for both the quality of the product as well as the shipment of your order(s).
